Biodiversity Collection Index

This database attempts to provide a GUID for ever natural history collection of interest to researchers. It could be thought of as a simple address book with some services wrapped round it. It wraps information from some existing suppliers such as Index Herbariorum.

Services provide by BCI include:

  • LSID
  • LSID proxy (for its own LSIDs so they behave like URL type URIs)
  • JSON

BCI's chief use is for annotation of specimen records so you know where the specimen resides and who is responsible for it. BCI does not promote the use of multipart keys for specimens - bad news you don't want to go there...
