PESI is in the early days of implementation but could broadly be thought of as a ITIS for Europe?
"PESI provides standardised and authoritative taxonomic information by integrating and securing Europe’s taxonomically authoritative species name registers and nomenclators (name databases) and associated exper(tise) networks that underpin the management of biodiversity in Europe."
The architecture will involve data publishers submitting checklist like taxonomies/classifications to the Common Data Model store that is proposed as part of the EDIT project. EDIT is also work in progress but will consist of a series of tools and a data store.
From the hackathon point of view the question is "How do we technically feed the outcomes of phylogenetic analysis into these projects?"
